Dunes Beach Boardwalk Project
Sadbanks River Country Donation 2020
Here we are at the beginning of November, and I'd like to announce, somewhat belatedly, a major contribution to the Friends of Sandbanks, of $25,000 from our neighbors at Sandbanks River Country (the former Martin's Outlet).
We really appreciate this gift, the largest single donation we have received in our over twenty-five years of our existence, and we sincerely thank Darren Birnie and his associates for contributing these monies to help complete our Dunes Beach Boardwalk Access Project.
We now expect an early completion to this valuable access project by summer, 2022.

The first part of this donation was made in early July. We all remember the high-water days of 2019 at the beach on West Lake. Lives were put at risk when first-responders were faced with difficulties in reaching distressed beach users.
When completed, this raised boardwalk will provide mobility access to the beach and the world-famous West Lake sand dunes for all, and facilitate the rapid treatment of anyone requiring medical aid.
The Friends of Sandbanks have been at the forefront of encouraging universal beach access, through our purchase of large-wheeled beach wheelchairs, and the installation of Mobi-Mats along the Outlet Beach that make it easier for all patrons, young and old, to access and enjoy our beaches.
